MAURO Alexander “Al”, on Feb. 14, 2013 of Upper Darby formerly of Broomall. Born to Carmella (nee D’Alessandro) and Antonio Mauromicali November 1, 1923 in West Philadelphia. The youngest of nine, “Sammy” as he was known in the neighborhood, worked on his father’s ice truck, among other places, until his musical talents led him to a career as an entertainer. He is best known for his work with The Mike Pedicin Quintet and his vocals on their 1957 hit “Shake a Hand” which he performed on American Bandstand. He loved to talk about his experiences in show business, performing in Atlantic City at The 500 Club and summer seasons in Sommer’s Point, NJ at Bayshore’s, Steel Ship Bar and the AC Steel Pier. He sang at many parties and weddings in the Phila. area throughout his many years in show business. He will be remembered by many in Upper Darby for the coffee and sandwiches he served with a smile and a song at his small business concession in the Girard Bank Buildings on Market Street in the 69th Street shopping district during the 70s and 80s. Survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Ellen (nee Donaghy), his loving daughters Karen Rogers (Paul) of Clermont, FL and Lisa McCann (Bill) of Milmont Park, PA, his cherished grandchildren Abby Rogers Rubich, Ethan and Alexander Rogers, Bill III and Sean McCann, also 3 great grandchildren, his sister Gilda Bachetti and many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Wed. Evening 7-9 P.M. and Thurs. Morning 8:30-9:15 A.M. at the D’ANJOLELL MEMORIAL HOME OF BROOMALL, 2811 West Chester Pike Broomall, PA 19008.
