LLOYD HENRY BAKER
June 14, 1934 – September 13, 2025
Lloyd “Biff” Henry Baker, 91, of Upper Chichester, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his home on September 13, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 14, 1934, in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. He was the third and last son to Ester and Ralph Baker.
Lloyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for four years. He spent most of his time stationed in Germany. Prior to being deported, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Hill…actually they eloped! When they came home from the ceremony, both sets of parents greeted them with hugs and well wishes. They were a wonderful match as their marriage spanned 71 years! What an example and blessing to the “Baker” clan!
Out of the military service, Lloyd was hired by Philadelphia Electric Company(PECO) as a lineman. After finishing his training in this job, he moved on to being a troubleshooter, a position serving the Delaware County’s electrical needs. He was known as “Biff” at the work place, and to the community, he was synonymous with being seen in the yellow bucket truck. Like an emergency worker, he was always at the ready to drop what he was doing when duty called to restore light to an area. A sign of contentment and satisfaction were his attributes as he never complained about his work schedule. This was a big part of his life and he honored God in this role for over 40 years.
In addition to restoring light, he was “a light” as he loved the Lord. At a young age he turned his heart over to Jesus and accepted Him as his personal savior. As a result, he served the Lord and his family in a calm, peaceable manner. His vocational skills transcended the work place as he repurposed them as an evangelism tool. He often times shared how after helping people in practical ways, it would open doors for ministry. What a beautiful reminder of how God uses us in our individual “callings”.
During his free time, it would not be surprising to see him reading. The coffee table always had a stack of books spanning his interests in airplanes, trains, Bible, Bible prophecy, and travel to far flung locations. While raising his family, there
were plenty of vacations using a camper. Before too long, they traveled in a trailer. Once the children were grown and retirement arrived, they traveled in the sought after Airstream trailer. A little later, their destinations were greater distances so they went by airplane. The trips included a variety of locations across the U.S., Mexico, and England.
With his kind and gentle manner, he had a way of putting people at ease. People enjoyed his company. This was also a wonderful quality experienced in the home, as well as his God given wisdom, strength and ability to love unconditionally. With Jesus we are comforted at this time of sadness and loss to know there is hope beyond the grave. Hallelujah, we will meet again! It is just “bye for now”. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for this loving, tender, and sensitive son, spouse, father, and grandfather in the Baker family!
