GARZARELLAAnthony “Tony” Garzarella, of Broomall and formerly of Overbrook, peacefully passed surrounded by his loving family on August 23, 2017 at the age of 88.Tony was born in Guardiagrele, Italy to Giovanni and Maria Santa, and became an American citizen many years ago. A mechanic by trade, Tony first worked at Sunny Stein Chevrolet in Upper Darby before becoming a machinist with the General Electric Company. There he worked with developing engineers and received awards for his innovative suggestions. His last position was as a machinist at Combination Pump Valve Company. Tony enjoyed gardening, making wine, playing bocce and spending time with his family and friends. A mechanic at heart, he continued until he was able, to maintain his car. He was always tinkering around in the garage or tending to his garden. When his wife became ill, he learned how to cook. He became Lina’s sous-chef and you would often find him in the kitchen. After his recent illness, he became a resident of the Springfield Senior Commons, and you would often find him in the Café there. He was the beloved husband of the late Lina (nee Tinari); loving father of Maria Gibbs (John), Janet DiPuppo (Robert), Linda Garzarella-Colon (Tim) and the late Vincenzo “Jimmy” Garzarella; cherished grandfather of Jason (Jessica), Brian (Christy), and Eric Gibbs, Robert and Michael DiPuppo and Timothy Colon; and recently the adoring great-grandfather of Theodore Anthony Gibbs. He was the devoted brother of Emilia DiGiacinto, Nicola Garzarella and the late Crisante, Rocco and Domenico Garzarella, all in Italy.Tony was also the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews, here and in Italy. Throughout his lifetime, he worked hard to care for his family. He frequently worked overtime on the job, and also worked in his garage in the evenings and on weekends. He loved being with family and friends and many hours were spent around the kitchen table, eating, drinking and talking about the old days in Italy. He taught all his grandchildren basic Italian, and would quiz them every time he saw them. Tony was an active member of the Associazione Regionale Abruzzese Delco and played bocce every Friday night with the group. He was also a member of the Societa Di Mutuo Soccorso Guardiagrele and participated in many of their events. He lived a full life and will be missed by all.
