Toots was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Born in Williamsburg, PA, on August 16, 1935, and baptized September 10, 1935 in St. Joseph’s Church, in Robeson-Extension, PA. The family moved to Lansdowne, PA in 1942, when her father got a job at the Naval Shipyard after WWII began. She graduated from Notre Dame High Moylan campus in 1953, and married John P. Squire in November 1955. The original family home was in Drexel Hill, PA, but they quickly outgrew that house and with six children settled in Glenolden. Two more children later rounded out the home.
Needless to say, taking care of eight children and a house was her full-time job for many years. A backyard swimming pool, school sports and ‘tree forts’ gave her an occasional break. She did it all; she was wife, mother, tutor, housekeeper, chauffeur, churchgoer, retail salesperson, cook, caretaker for her own parents, and grandmother. Both sides of the family were large and family gatherings were well attended with plentiful food. In midlife she spent 20 years living in New Providence, PA, working at Weis Market, enjoying the bucolic setting. Later, she settled in Prospect Park and as the family matriarch, was the ‘glue’ for countless celebrations of births, marriages, holidays and passings. The family remembers only eight months ago, she tore up the dance floor at her grandson’s wedding at the age of 88.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Friday Morning February 7th at 9:30, followed by her Memorial Service at 10:30. Interment at Edgewood Cemetery shortly thereafter.
