MATTIA
Charles M. “Charlie”, age 83, of Exton, PA on October 12, 2024.
Charlie graduated from St. Thomas More in 1959 and The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1963 where he earned a degree in Economics and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He later completed graduate courses in Metallurgy at Union College in NY. Charlie’s prolific career in the steel industry began in sales at Phoenix Steel, later moving on to Lukens Steel in 1969 where he spent 33 years honing his craft while advancing, eventually becoming Vice President of Sales in 1989. During this time, he also served on the Board of Directors of The Steel Plate Fabricators Association and as a member of the American Iron & Steel Institute and the American Institute for Steel Construction. “Chuck” as he was affectionately known in the steel industry, finished his career as Vice President of Business Development for both Ipsco Steel and SSAB North America before retiring in 2010. Charlie enjoyed dinners with family, listening to Frank Sinatra, Jazz music, reading and playing golf with coworkers, friends and family. Charlie was a member of Chester Valley Golf Club for nearly 40 years.
Predeceased by his parents, Florence (nee Courtney) and James L. Mattia.
Survived by his wife of 30 years, Anne C. (nee Mecke) Mattia, his son, Matthew J. (Nicole), Lauren Begley, Greg Ackerman, his two grandchildren, Jackson and Hannah Begley, his sister, Florence “Chippi” Martin (the late John), his sisters-in-law, Christine Mecke (David), Mary Borne (the late Jim) and several cousins.
Relatives & friends are invited to his Viewing Saturday, October 19th 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM followed by his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM ALL IN CHURCH at SS Philip & James Catholic Church 723 Lincoln Hwy E, Exton, PA 19341. Interment Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
