David A. Traynor: Age 82, of Wallingford, PA (previously of Newport News, VA), passed away peacefully on August 12, 2022 with family by his side after a sudden and brief illness. Loving father of Tami (David) Wible, Stephen (Lisa) Traynor and Bryan (Cindi) Traynor; proud Pop Pop and Pop to granddaughters, Alex, Caitlyn, Genny, Hannah and Dillen, and grandson, Conlan. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as many friends and current and former neighbors. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 49 years, Pamela (Graves), to whom he was deeply devoted.
Born in Elmhurst, Illinois, David was raised in Austin, Texas. David earned his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Texas at Austin. Later, he completed his master’s degree in Geography from Eastern Michigan University. David met his beloved wife, Pam (nee Graves) in Michigan. They married in December 1965, just before David shipped out to Vietnam in January 1966. Upon his return, after briefly living in Del Rio, Texas, they settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan and raised their family.
David spent his career in the military, primarily working in defense intelligence. He retired as a Major from the Air Force/Air National Guard Reserves, in 1985, and moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where he worked in a civilian capacity for the US Army as an Air Threat Analyst at Ft. Leavenworth. In 1994, Pam and David moved to Newport News, Virginia. David was assigned to the Threat Office at the Training/Doctrine Command (TRADOC) at Ft. Monroe, Virginia. He retired from that position in June 2003.
Following Pam’s death in 2015, David eventually moved up to Pennsylvania to live with his daughter, Tami, and her family in Wallingford, a suburb of Philadelphia. He enjoyed being a part of their lives, including attending many family events and trips and attending school functions and activities with his granddaughters, Hannah and Dillen. He enjoyed photography, taking community enrichment classes and gardening. He also was devoted to his pups, Paco and Lulu.
A friend to all, David never met a stranger. At family parties, events and on trips, David always had a camera in hand to document the action. Family members and friends fondly remember him for sending copies of printed photos from those events and for sending birthday or anniversary cards with sweet notes, carrying on that task after Pam passed away.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation and celebratory mass at St. John Chrysostom Church in Wallingford on Thursday, September 29, 2022, starting at 9:30 am. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in David’s honor to the American Cancer Society or to the Pennsylvania SPCA.
