Dorothy Ragan Wilkins, age 98, of Broomall, Pa, passed away on November 2, 2016. She was the daughter of Dr. David M Ragan and Rose Shoff Ragan.Dot was born in Conowingo, Maryland on May 18, 1918. After starting her schooling in a one room schoolhouse, she proudly attended Jacob Tome Institute in Port Deposit, Maryland. After graduation Dot moved to the big city, Wilmington, where she was employed first by the Diamond State Telephone Company and then Bell Telephone Co of Pa. There she met her husband, George who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by 6 brothers and a sister.In 2016, Dot was included in a Maryland PBS documentary about the building of the Conowingo Dam. She was one of the few still living who remembered the old town before it was flooded by the completion of the dam. In her teen years she swam across the Susquehanna River, followed by a boyfriend in a rowboat.Dot was a member of the Pythian Sisters lodge. When the chapter disbanded some of the members continued to meet to laugh and play cards and the “Jolly Girls” still do so to this day. Her favorite times were those spent with her flowers or on a sunny beach. She was also a life member of the Broomall Fire Auxiliary.Dot is survived by her two children, William (Deborah) and Diane, two grandsons, Michael (Maureen) and Andrew (Ashley) and two great grandchildren, Grace and Jacob. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.Visitation will be held from 11AM to 1 PM at Danjolell Memorial Home, 2811 W. Chester Pike, Broomall, PA on Saturday Nov. 12, 2016. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Broomall Fire Company, 10 N Malin Road, Broomall, PA. 19008.
