Edward M. Selverian
Ed, of Newtown Square. PA, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024. Ed was born on May 6, 1929 in West Philadelphia to Jirard and Mary Selverian.
Ed graduated from Pennsylvania Military Academy and then Pennsylvania Military College in 1949. He served in the Korean War as a Second Lieutenant platoon leader in Company A, 223rd Infantry Regiment from May to November 1952 (Kumwah Valley, Iron Triangle, Punchbowl). As true of many from that generation, Ed was proud but modest about his service, talking little of his experiences. Ed retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Army Reserves after 30 years’ service.
After his service, Ed met his soon to be wife, Helen at the beach in Asbury Park, NJ and they were happily married for 68 years.
Ed owned and operated Arrow Linen Supply, in Broomall, PA, serving clients in the restaurant and club business.
Ed’s passions included family first and golf second. He loved the game and taught his sons to play, enjoy and respect the game, as so many life lessons were taught on the course. He also loved to ski, well into his late 70s, with his grandchildren. He enjoyed history and shared his many great reads with his family as recently as a few months ago. Gin rummy and dancing with his beautiful wife, Helen, were fun pastimes at Aronimink Golf Club, being a member since 1967, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of so many of his lifelong friends. Indeed, treating everyone with respect, dignity and cheer was his distinctive nature and he will be remembered as a true gentleman.
Ed is survived by sons, Michael J. (Susan), and John H. (Andrea), his five grandchildren, Kendall (Travis), Michael “Mac” J. Jr. (Amanda), Edward “Teddy,” Alex, and Hannah, and one great-grandson, Banks.
Per his wishes, there will be a private Memorial for family only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bryn Mawr Hospital Foundation at https://giving.mainlinehealth.org/ways-to-give/bryn-mawr-hospital-foundation
