I have known Freddie Lesher since I was a child in the 80s. He was always friendly and kind, sincerely willing to help whoever out if he could. He was a true "neighbor" to those in his neighborhood, and I'm sure wherever he went. Freddie's life was one that truly touched many other lives. His spirit will be missed. My sympathies to his family and all those who mourn his passing. You are in my prayers.

I grew up in Colwyn with Freddie and am one of the few that stayed in Colwyn with him. He often joked with me about that. I just saw him recently and he was as funny and pleasant as always. Busy with horse racing he told me. We always talked for a long time as we had so many fun memories. He was always available to help me in any way he could over the years. I will miss him. He always called me one of the "Horn" girls which was a big compliment he said. RIP Fred, and prayers for the family.

Fred was my cousin as his dad and my mom were siblings. We hardly saw each other in-person as he and I were at opposite ends of the state … I reside in Bethel Park outside of Pittsburgh and Fred lived in his hometown of Colwyn outside of Phila. Still, we spoke quite often, and I enjoyed these conversations. Fred was the consummate “straight shooter”, and the experiences and insights that he shared were enlightening. He & his son Fred came out & visited in the "aughts" (probably in 2004 or 2005) when young Freddie was in high school. We hit a few Pirate games at our new baseball stadium PNC Park, and I showed Fred and his son some of the more prominent sights in Pittsburgh, such as the view of the city and its 3 rivers from atop Mt. Washington. To get there, we rode the Monongahela Incline. To get into the city, we used our Light Rail Transit system that runs between the last stop near my house in Bethel Park into downtown Pittsburgh and the North Shore, home of PNC Park. My local bar - restaurant adjacent to the LRT stop near my house is appropriately named The Trolley Stop. Fred was enamored with my Light Rail Transit system and The Trolley Stop as he always spoke about them. (Perhaps “enamored” is not the right word.) I went out to Princeton via Amtrak to visit my daughter in 2016. I had a "layover" in center city of Phila., and he came to the train station and took me to a Revolutionary War era bar. Regrettably, this was the last time that we saw each other in person as I never made the trip out to see him after young Freddie passed in 2017. He was supposed to come out in early June for the weekend series with Phillies, and this visit was to include a trip to our local harness racing venue, the Meadows. He often talked about his passion for going to the track, and I was looking forward to going to the Meadows with him to see him “in action”. He had to abort this trip because of difficulty with walking due to ankle injury. Rest in peace, my kindred spirit, and thank you. I am very thankful for God’s grace in bringing our lives together.

Fred Lesher was my brother-in-law and I can honestly say I have never known a person more comfortable in his own skin than Fred. As a husband, a father, an elected official, he was comfortable in who he was because he knew who he was and what he believed and valued. He loved his son and his wife and he loved the borough of Colwyn. A good name is better than the sweetest oil and this is the legacy Fred leaves behind. I will miss him and every time I'm on the sunny side of the street, I will think of him because he lived his life on that side. Thoughts and prayers for my sister, Ramona at this time and always.
