Helen, (nee Charley) age 85, on August 30, 2022 of Glenolden, PA.
Helen Antoinette was born on July 26, 1937 at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital. She was the oldest daughter of Joseph Charley and Emily Wicentouricz . She spent her early years in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania. With many of her aunts and uncles living in the Philadelphia, she considered herself South Philly proud. While attending West Catholic high school, she played field hockey and was a candy striper at Fitzgerald Mercy hospital. Helen met her soulmate Joe while working at Hollingworth in Clifton Heights, PA. They were making generators for the government and they married on April 27, 1957. While her children were young, she devoted all her time as a homemaker. When they got a little older, she worked in the cafeteria at Darby Township school. As an empty nester, she found great joy in watching little ones in her home as well as providing support for her elderly neighbor and friend. She took great pride in her home in Glenolden and lived there with her family for 60 years. Helen was well known in the neighborhood for walking everywhere. Never having gotten a driver’s license, her mode of transportation became her feet. She loved walking around her neighborhood and the store. When asked if she need a ride by numerous friends and neighbors, she would always say “Thanks, but I would rather walk.” Her hidden talent was bowling, and she was active in both a women’s league and mixed couples league for many years. She bragged about being a strong Leo and was obsessed with the color red.
She is predeceased by her parents, her younger sister Julia, and daughters in law Maria and Nancy.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Joseph Vietro , her sons Jerry (Robyn), Jimmy (late Maria) and Joey (late Nancy), along with 6 grandchildren : Kara (Jim), Ginnine (Shane), Taya, Nicholas (Samantha), Anthony, Dante (Tara), 3 great-grandchildren with one on the way , her sister Jade and many loving nieces and nephews. She relished her roles as wife, daughter, sister, Kack, Mom Mom, aunt, cousin, and godmother. She provided unlimited love, hospitality, and delicious food to her family and multitudes of guests in her home who became like family. Helen possessed an unwavering faith and was a living example of Christ in the way she served her church, community, and family, always putting the need of others before herself. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima church for 60 years.
