I am deeply heartbroken over the loss of my coworker, Jessie, who was kind, supportive, and uplifting. Jessie was the first to respect my preferred name and pronouns, making me feel seen and valued. We shared a deep connection over our struggles with mental health, and would always check in on each other. Jessie was a helpful and cheerful coworker who made work enjoyable. In January, I noticed a slight change in Jessie’s demeanor but never expected his passing. I regret missing his funeral due to a lack of information but plan to donate to the Jed Foundation in his honor. Jessie’s kindness and memory will always be cherished.

In high school, Jessie was one of the few people who seemed to ask "how are you?" with sincerity. He would go out of his way to catch up with you at a party or in a class. He made everyone feel welcome because of this. Although we ran in pretty different social circles, if he was in the room, I had a friend. Especially during high school, teenage boys can be cruel but Jessie was the exception. His legacy of effortless kindness and friendship exists within everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He is loved and missed every day. Thinking of you and wishing you peace and comfort during this time of grief.

I went to high school with Jessie and was a year older than him. I did not know him very well and we never had very much interaction, but when we did through mutual friends, it was always incredibly polite and kind. He was a very gentle soul and I will never forget his kindness. Sending peace and love during these times of grief to your family.

“Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.” I am so deeply sorry for your loss.
