John C. Torney passed away peacefully on July 9 surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.John was born in Roanoke, Virginia and moved to the Overbrook section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania early in his life. He graduated high school in the Philadelphia area and went on to serve as a Corpsman in the United States Navy. After his military service, he went on to attend and graduate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania which led him to a successful career as a Marketing Consultant providing services to small businesses. John met Carole Havrilko in 1968 and married her in 1971. They were inseparable until his death. Known for his dry sense of humor, he alway remarked how meeting his wife changed his life for the better but mostly by Carole keeping him “in-line.” In his spare time, instead of devoting it to his own personal hobbies and activities, he supported his children’s sporting endeavors and adventures.John was an old movie aficionado with the ability to converse extensively about even the most rare character actor. He frequently quoted movie lines to his family and especially one from one of his favorite movies lines from Arsenic and Old Lace: “I’ve led a strange life, Mortimer, and it has taught me to be afraid of no man!” As a fan of big band and contemporary singer and song writers, his home was known to hum with the hits of the era. He enjoyed following politics and exploring different areas of engineering. After retirement, his biggest love was spending time with his two grandchildren and became the “best Pop ever”.John is survived by his wife Carole, son, John M Torney, son, Christopher and daughter in law, Schuyler Torney, and daughter, Melissa and son in law Michael D’Agostino, and his grandchildren, Henley and Remington Torney.Funeral Services are private.
