John M. Casamento, 95, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, passed August 29, 2016 at Rose Tree Place. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Casamento was a lifelong resident of the city. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946. He was wounded in Luxembourg in 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following the war, Mr. Casamento worked for many years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was married to Lena (nee Taritero) for more than 40 years, until her death in 1988. He was an avid fan of Philadelphia’s sports teams.Mr. Casamento was also predeceased by his parents and siblings. Survivors: Son, John (Susan) Casamento Jr. of Ridley Park; grandchildren, Laura (Brian) Wiseley of Springfield; Michael (Karli) Casamento of Aston; Jessica Casamento of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Matthew Casamento of Upper Chichester; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
