John P. Niggeman, Jr.
John P. (Jack) Niggeman, age 86, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Jack was
born in Sylvan Lake, Michigan on May 15th, 1936 and was the only child of John and Marion
Niggeman. He is survived by his wife Judith R. (nee Smith) of 61 years, his two sons Stephen
(Kimberly) and David (Debra). Jack (Poppy) was the loving grandfather of 6 beautiful
grandchildren whom he adored, Gabrielle (Arthur), Cole, Cassidy, Ryan, Julian and Aidan.
Jack graduated from Albion College in Michigan and then entered the armed forces (army). He
went on to the University of Michigan and earned his masters degree in business. He moved
with his family to Pennsylvania to begin his career as a McDonald’s franchisee and became very
involved in his community through ownership of multiple McDonald’s restaurants in Chester and
Delaware counties. Through his involvement with McDonald’s, Jack became part of a group of
people who were instrumental in the founding of the first Ronald McDonald House (still located
in Philadelphia). Jack felt great pride and had a genuine interest in all of the wonderful people
who worked for him over the years.
In retirement, Jack enjoyed traveling with Judy, where they visited many national landmarks
around the world. He loved watching his grandson’s play soccer and lacrosse and both of his
granddaughter’s performances. But mostly, he loved just spending time with them, making
them laugh and always letting them know how special they were to him. Jack loved to tell
stories and his grandchildren were his greatest audience. He believed stories connect and unite
us. Jack was a great story teller, often embellishing, but his grandchildren listened with great
interest and held on to every word.
Throughout his life, he showed a deep interest in other people’s lives and loved hearing about
their stories as well. He loved to learn and was always asking questions, always reading and
always keeping up to date on the world and current events.
Jack was many things to many people. He was a wonderful example to his children and
grandchildren but most importantly, Jack was an honest man who had a tender heart for those
who needed a smile. He was a simple man who loved his family and his community and will be
missed by many.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 5th at 11am.
Following the service, the family would like to invite friends to a reception in the church
gathering room at the Newtown Square Presbyterian Church, 3600 Goshen Road, Newtown
Square, PA 19073.
