Wish I had gotten to the website sooner, but John hit the nail on the head -- kindness. The list of friends' fathers around whom I did not feel awkward or intimidated is very short. It begins and ends with Joe Sr. He and Joe's mother were so welcoming that I was never in a rush to leave and be "on our way." They remain wherever the warmth of simple humanity gently transforms the polarities and gaps that would make our world a cold place.
