Joseph J. Michalcewiz (“Joe Joe”)
Joseph James Michalcewiz, age 58 of Wilmington, Delaware passed away suddenly, but peacefully February 5, 2025 at his home. He was born in Chester, PA and raised in Wilmington, DE.
Joseph was a 1984 graduate of Concord High School. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Ukranian Orthodox Church. He loved everything about the beach and was a huge Philadelphia sports fan, especially his beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies teams! He formerly worked for the Brandywine School District, Victory Beverage and CitiSteel Corp.
For those who knew Joseph (“Joe Joe”) best, he was an immensely talented musician who played in several “hard rock” bands throughout his life, most notably in the 80’s and 90’s bands NOYZE and FFN. While he was best known as a talented singer, guitarist, and song writer, he could seemingly pick up any instrument and effortlessly play them despite having never taken a lesson in his life. He had the courage to chase his dream to be a professional musician in the late 1980’s, moving to Los Angeles and Long Beach, CA to join a band. His sacrifice and passion for music were always at the forefront of every decision he made.
However, music was only one of his many true gifts. Joe had the ability to just make people laugh and feel welcome. He had an incredible sense of humor and lit up the room when he walked in. It was rare to not see someone smiling or laughing in conversation with him. He loved to be around people, and to be in his presence was always an unpredictable and memorable experience.
Joe was a devoted and loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His legacy is defined by all of the love, support, strength and courage he provided, and his memory will endure in all of those he touched in life.
He is predeceased by his father, Joseph Leon Michalcewiz. He is survived by his mother, Irene (nee Waychunas), children, Justin Michalcewiz, Aeric Homan, and Victoria Homan, brother, Robert and wife Jennifer Michalcewiz, nephew Luke Michalcewiz, and niece, Alena Michalcewiz, along with many cousins whom he truly loved.
At Joe’s request, visitation will be private. He was adamant that he wanted to be remembered and celebrated in life, not mourning over his passing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church 1406 Philadelphia Pike Wilmington, DE 19809.
