Joey grew up in Darby and attended BVM and Monsignor Bonner. He lived in Florida for a short time after high school, in South Philly for several years, but eventually made it back to his roots in Delco.
Joey was the guy that walks into your house with the larger-than-life personality, and it was always “Yo” coming through the door with his big voice! His head was full of the knowledge that could win a game of Trivial Pursuit and be your phone a friend on “Millionaire”! He had a great sense of humor (loved breaking your balls) and there wasn’t a dad joke that he didn’t tell. This personality resulted in him garnering quite a few nicknames, from little Joey and Cupcake in his youth, to Joey Bag-O-Donuts and Big Snax at work. He was looked up to like a big brother and considered a great friend by many.
He was strong, resilient, loyal and devoted. He loved many things like The Miami Dolphins and Dan Marino, Frank Thomas, Nike gear and sneakers (lots of sneakers!), coffee, of course food, and fantasy football (there wasn’t a fantasy league he wasn’t a part of!). But nothing compared to the love he had for his daughter Sam, whom he affectionately referred to as “Poops”! He would do anything for Sam and she for him, it was a beautiful father – daughter relationship.
Joey touched many lives especially within the Clifton Heights PAL, where he was Coach Joe for 14 years. He gave a significant portion of his time to the kids in Clifton. He was loved by his current and former players, their parents, and respected throughout the leagues.
Joey is survived by his daughter Samantha Bellano; mother Jennifer Bellano; father Joseph Bellano and step mother Laurie Bellano; siblings Lorraine Bellano (Chris Zingler), Jennifer O’Neill (James), Stefanie Trainer (Brad), and Nicholas Bellano. Also survived by his loving partner Liz Ryan and her children Caden, Paige, and Janie, who loved him like a dad. He will be missed by his aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and his many, many friends.
