HERNADI

Julius “Jules” Hernadi, age 82, on Friday May 22, 2026 at 3:13pm, of Aldan, PA died at University of Pennsylvania Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He is dearly loved and will be missed.

He was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1943. At the age of two he and his mother escaped on the last train out of the city prior to the December 26^th 1945 “Siege of Budapest” by the Soviet forces. They embarked on a perilous journey through Europe finally arriving at a refugee camp in Belgium where they were reunited with his father. As an act of charity, Dr. Vegria a Dermatologist at St Louis University sponsored the family’s immigration to United States in 1950. They boarded a ship at Le Havre, France and arrived in New York City. Soon the family relocated to the Villanova area. He attended Piarist Fathers Devon Preparatory School. He studied Biology at St. Joseph’s College now University. He worked at Wyeth, met Elaine and was married in 1967. He taught 8^th grade science at Upper Darby Middle School for 8 years before embarking on a successful and rewarding career as an insurance broker. He was recognized as a leader in his field. Forever a teacher at heart he derived great joy in educating his clients about the often murky world of health care and insurance. He loved tennis, chess, shooting pool, music, history, politics, world travel and his family. He loved investing his time in the future by teaching children chess. He was a lifelong learner with a penchant for the esoteric. He rarely met a stranger and loved greeting people in their native tongue when he could.

Predeceased by his wife, Elaine (nee Leo) Hernadi, his parents, Maria (nee Zelles) and Julius Hernadi, and his sister, Maria Rita Glickstein.

Survived by his three nephews, Jonathan, Josiah and David Glickstein, their children who were dear to him, and Kerima Swartz his faithful companion of 23 years and many loving friends.

Relatives & friends are invited to his Graveside Service, July 3^rd at 1:30 , Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1600 Sproul Rd., Springfield, PA 19064.

Contributions in Julius’ memory may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.

Jules was a larger-than-life "character" from my childhood. My father, Ross Heverly, worked with him, Mike, and Ken at United Republic. Everyone (to include Helen and Barry) would come up to my parents' place near Lake Wallenpaupack. My favorite memory of Jules was of him prone in the front of my parents' motorboat with his face hanging over the very front. Of course I probably never witnessed it, I just heard my father's stories over and over. Thanks for adding to my happy childhood memories, Jules.

Sorry for your loss. We are Kerima’s’ friends. We met Jules many years ago. Very ongoing person. Very kind and always excited about traveling learning about other cultures. Now he is resting, leaving many people that love him behind. Rest in Peace

My dear friend Jules. We had a lifetime of friendship and fun starting with United Republic and on. The trips we took with UR were the best. You were the reason for me meeting my wife. I miss our breakfast meetings at Cracker Barrel and each time I see one I think of you. Our poker games, chess matches, and Pool where you were hard to beat. We were like brothers and I miss you. Gone but not forgotten .

Rick & I will truly miss Julius ! Elaine was my cousin and that is how Julius came into our life .He was our family and we enjoyed all our time spend together! Birthdays , Holidays ,Weddings ,Graduations , he was there ! My favorite memory of Julius wa in Thanksgiving, he came into my house, holding a roasting pan that was jumping and singing with a rubber chicken on his head! This was quite a sight to behold! To know Julius was to love Julius ! Rest in peace, my cousin!

We will miss Julius very much ! Julius was married to my cousin Elaine and he was always at family gatherings even after Elaine passed.He was family and he loved all the parties & holidays& outings we shared ! One of my favorite memories was on Thanksgiving many years ago, he came into the house with a roasting pan that was jumping and singing ! In side was a toy Turkey and on his head was a rubber chicken ! To know Julius was to Love Julius ! Rest in Peace my cousin ! Thanks for the memories!
