NEEDLESLewis Charles Needles age 87 died peacefully with his daughter Joyce Ann by his side, on April 29, 2018 at his home in Linwood. Lew was born and raised in Marcus Hook and despite moving to Linwood always considered himself a “forever Hooker.” True to his rebellious nature, he was a diehard Oakland Raiders fan.Lewis worked as a research Chemist at American Viscose in Marcus Hook and his name appears on the patent for Pepto Bismol. Lew also worked at Styer’s Garden Center where he was a PA Accredited Nurseryman and Penn State University in the landscape/maintenance department. Mr. Needles was a winner of the Lion’s Paw award for his dedication to improving the landscape of the PSU Delaware County Campus.He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as an artillery/small weapons expert. Lew was the recipient of the Republic of Korea Presidential Citation, a Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Lewis was a proud member of many veteran’s organizations and held many offices within them. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 926 in Aston, VFW Post 928 Folsom, AM Vets Post 118 in Morton and Voiture Locale 518 40/8 where he held the office of Chef DeGare. As a member of the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent 46, he served as Seam Squirrel in the Grand Pup Tent. Lewis followed in his father’s footsteps and was a life member with more than 50 years of service to Viscose Fire Company in Marcus Hook and the Delaware County Fireman’s Association. The Corinthos disaster was the last fire he fought.Survivors: Loving husband of the late Maryann (nee Kowalski). Devoted father of Joyce Fail and Janet Barton. Cherished pop pop of Kimberly, Colleen and Elizabeth Fail; Patricia and Amanda Barton.Funeral & Burial will be private per Lewis’ request.
