Sister Mary Clancy, RSM, age 71, died on December 13, 2006 in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
In 1959, Sister Mary professed vows as a Sister of Mercy. She earned a B.A. in Humanities and a M.A. in Religious Studies from Villanova University and a M.A. in Elementary Education from Catholic University of America.
Sister Mary is survived by her mother, Helen and her brother, Joseph, of Philadelphia.
From 1959 to 1962, Sister Mary taught grade 1 at Holy Cross School, Springfield and from 1962 to 1965, Sister taught grades 3 and 5 at Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg, VA. Sister Mary was Principal of Walsingham Academy Lower School from 1965 to 1970, St. Michael the Archangel, Levittown, from 1970 to 1973, St. Alphonsus School, Maple Glen from 1973 to 1974 and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Philadelphia from 1974 to 1976.
Sister Mary went on to teach grade 4 at St. Paul School, Allentown from 1976 to 1977 and St. Malachy School from 1977 to 1978. In 1978, Sister became Director of Religious Education at St. Paul Parish, East Norriton and was there until 1986. Sister Mary was the Pastoral Associate at St. Francis of Assisi, Philadelphia from 1986 to 1994. She was the Director of Religious Education at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish of Phila. from 1994 to 1995.
In 1996, Sister Mary moved to West Virginia, where she was the DRE/Pastoral Assistant at St. Joseph Parish, Huntingdon, until 1998. Sister then became Director of Religious Education at St. Margaret Mary Parish, Pakersburg, W.VA in 1998 and was still ministering there until her death. There will be a funeral liturgy at St. Margaret Mary Parish, Saturday, Dec. 16, at 11 AM.
