Loving Wife, Daughter, Sister, AuntMeghan Elisabeth Smith (nee Eaves) of Media, PA passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at the young age of 32. Meghan was raised in Jackson, New Jersey. She moved to Pennsylvania to continue her college education, graduating with summa cum laude honors from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics and a Master of Science in Community Nutrition. In June 2019, she became a credentialed Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Meghan was an incredibly kind and unbelievably funny person. When she walked into a room, she brightened it with her beautiful smile, infectious laugh and sharp wit. She would hug you and tease you all in the same moment. She had a heart of gold, loved family dearly and became family to many friends. Meghan had a courageous soul and found beauty in nature and peace in the mountains, propelling her to travel to Peru solo and hike over 50 miles to Machu Picchu. She was an avid hiker and climber with her husband, Steve. She conquered a winter summit of Mt. Washington, climbed the icy Shoestring Gully, and made a winter ascent of the Trap Dike on the way to the summit of Mt. Colden in the Adirondacks. She loved leading traditional climbing routes, especially in the Gunks (NY), all while singing cheesy 80’s songs. Meghan became a certified Climbing Wall Instructor through the AMGA and established the Outdoor Recreation Center at West Chester University while working as the Graduate Assistant. And it was on the top of Mt. Bierstadt at over 14,000 ft that Steve asked Meghan to marry him.Meghan was highly determined – overcame many difficult obstacles, took on inspiring challenges such as training for and finishing the 2013 Philadelphia Marathon, and set a professional goal to educate and guide children and adults to better health through dietary and lifestyle changes. Meghan volunteered her time as a youth leader in her church and to several nonprofits such as Chester County Food Bank, Philabundance and Ardmore Food Pantry, as well as One Simple Wish, an organization that supports foster children.Meghan is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen Smith of Media, PA, her mother Patricia Eaves of Bordentown, NJ; her father Richard Eaves and step-mother, Donna of The Villages, FL; sister Tara Taylor, husband Kazembe and children, Keirra, Tolani, Kazembe Jr., and Jordan of Lawrenceville, NJ; sister Kimberly Gelb, husband Charles and children, Peyton and Sadie of Lawrenceville, NJ; brother Jason Eaves, wife Meghan of Washington, DC; step sister Jamie Mc Bride, husband Matthew of Grottoes, VA; mother-in-law and father-in-law Lois and Kevin Smith; brother-in-law Michael Smith; brother-in-law Timothy Smith, wife Jacquelyn and son, River; and sister-in-law Kate Baer, husband Zack and son, Forrest. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends who loved her deeply, and her beloved cats, Nike and Norman Bates. Visitation & Funeral: Due to the global pandemic, we as a family have made a very hard, but realistic decision not to hold public services. A memorial service will be held at a later date when we can gather safely. In lieu of flowers, donations in Meghan’s name can be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) at https://afsp.donordrive.com/campaign/MeghanSmithFundIf you or a loved one are in crisis, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.
