From the extended Pellegrino – Andreoni family, we would like to thank everyone for coming and celebrating Nancy Anna. Born Annunziata Pellegrino in South Philly July of 1925, Annunziata was translated to Nancy Anna, and she became known as Nancy or Anna to friends, Aunt Anna to her many nieces and nephews, Mom to Debbie and I, Mom-Mom to Ed, Regina and Krista, and most recently, Mom-Mom-Mom to Eddie, her great grandson. These various names exemplify Mom’s diversity to her friends and extended family into her 100th year of life. After 50 years of working outside of the home, Mom and Dad were able to spend a great deal of special time with Ed during his younger years. Those were years that I know Ed will always cherish. When our two daughters were young, Elaine would often drive up from Chapel Hill to visit with their grandparents, allowing Regina and Krista to know Mom and their maternal grandmother, Angela. During the last two years, our families have been blessed to have weekend meals with Mom. These meals mirrored our family’s childhood memories which revolved around Sunday night coffee and dessert at our original Mom-Mom’s house, Jennie Pellegrino, with our aunts, uncles and cousins. The true hero of the last thirty years is Debbie. She has been Mom’s rock; always there for any urgency, but more importantly and demanding, the daily hard work of getting through life as Mom progressed from her 70’s to her late 90’s, and especially the adjustment when Mom transitioned into her nursing home while having all of her mental capacities. Into this year, Mom’s mental function was amazing, remembering everyone’s Birthday. She wrote every personal message as recently as April for Krista’s Birthday. As we think about Mom throughout her many years, we remember all her contemporaries, especially our close family members, as we are thankful for Mom living far into her 100th year of life. Even more than the quantity of her long life was the quality of how she lived it; how she deeply touched so many in her family and her friends. We all pray for Mom today, and tomorrow we will be asking her to pray for us.
