Peter Joseph Farley died peacefully in his own bed at his home in Malvern, Pennsylvania on March 4th 2018. Peter was born on December the 8th 1925 to Peter and Bridget (McAnany) Farley in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of 4 siblings. His sisters were Mary (McHale) Rosalie (Gallagher) and Margaret (Kimmey). Peter grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from St. Thomas More Catholic Boys High School in 1943. After high school, Peter joined and served in the United States Navy as a signalman aboard the LL 1082. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was stationed in Japan after the wars end. After the service Peter joined the Merchant Marines and traveled to many distant countries across the great wide sea. Peter then moved to Berryville Virginia and joined the Trappist monks at the Holy Cross Abbey. Peter served at the Abbey for many years. He raised cattle, planted a forest, baked bread and fruit cakes, and lived a life in service to God.Peter was a kind and gentle man to all who knew him. He was a quirky odd ball too. He was a believer in Christ and God and a follower of the Catholic Church. He believed in social justice for all people. Peter was a volunteer in the community. He used to bake cakes for the homeless of Philadelphia. He went shopping and did odd jobs for our neighbors who were shut in. He volunteered many hours at both the Daylesford abbey as an usher and at Paoli Hospital as a transporter. If Peter hadn’t developed Alzheimer’s he would have volunteered helping people for his whole life. Peter is survived by his ex-wife Shirley Bly, daughter Bridget and Walter Stubbs, children Moses, Bronwyn, and Eli, daughter Peggy Farley and children Abu (Firkaly) and Aurora (Crater), and by his son Peter Joseph Farley Jr. his wife Christine, and their daughter Lorelei. A service remembering the life of Peter J. Farley will be held at The Daylesford Abbey on March 19th 2018 at 10:30. ” And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time” — Jesus Christ
