Rob was born on February 25, 1964 to Ritanne Malone and Dr. Michael F. Devine, Jr. He was the fifth of six children. He is survived by his five siblings including Michael F., III (Tee), Nan Meehan, (Tom), Jay (Bridget), Matt (Jen) and Dave (Ann). He is predeceased by his parents and by his loving in-laws; Harold William Rohr and Joanne Lovatt Rohr.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Aleen Louise McGinty (Brian) and a brother-in-law, John Harold Rohr. One other sister-in-law, Christine Rohr Thompson (Tommy), predeceased him.
Rob grew up in Merion and later Gladwyne. He attended Waldron Academy and Saint Matthias. He went on to graduate from Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School in 1982 where he excelled as a member of the varsity lightweight eight crew team. The lightweight eight boat won many championships including the 1981 James R. Muldowney Trophy at the Stotesbury Regatta. Rob set the pace for the boat as the stroke man. In 1981, the boat set a new Stotesbury record (4:18) which went unbroken until 2000.
He graduated with a food marketing degree from Saint Joseph’s University in 1986. He moved to Harrisburg to work for Sandoz and later returned to Philadelphia to work for Advanta.
Rob met his wife, Dianne, in 2003 and they were married in 2005. On April 9, 2023 they celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary. The couple enjoyed being with their families, traveling and spending time with their large group of friends at the Jersey shore, biking on local trails, running 5k races, skiing in the U.S., and traveling in Europe.
Rob adored his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews! He was so proud of their many accomplishments in school, athletics and professionally. He and Dianne were regulars cheering on the sidelines of their games; and later on the river and sidelines of their grandnieces and grandnephews’ games and crew races.
Rob was an avid Philadelphia sports fan; never missing an Eagles, Sixers, Flyers or Phillies game. He was also proficient with all the teams’ statistics, earning him the family nickname, “Stat Man.”
In 1998; Rob started his own successful mortgage business, Approval Plus Mortgage, which he grew to serve customers in six states. The business continued to thrive even navigating the ups and downs of interest rates.
