Robert Paul Bryer Jr.

Robert Bryer passed away on August 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family he spent his life loving and protecting.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Bob Bryer and Betty Bryer (Ford).

He leaves behind his daughter, Jessica Bryer (Jimmy Stigale); his son, Joseph Bryer; and his sons, Robert and Richard McLauchlan, whom Robert loved as his own. One of his greatest regrets was never making that bond official by adopting Robert and Richard, though in his heart, they were always his sons.

He is also survived by his siblings, Scott Bryer (Jen), Terri Kellar (Walter), Donna Greg (Carl), and Carol McDonald; as well as his grandchildren, chosen family, and many people lucky enough to be loved by him.

Robert was a handyman in every sense of the word. If something was broken, chances where he could figure out how to fix it. He had an endless supply of seemingly useless facts, a kind soul, and a stubborn streak that anyone who knew him well will remember. He loved baking, gardening, his cats, and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles.

More than anything, Robert loved his family fiercely.

He was the kind of man who was ready to fight tooth and nail for the people he loved. He could be stubborn, and occasionally a pain in the butt, but when push came to shove, you knew he would be there— “no questions asked.”

Those three words meant something in Robert’s family. He told them to Jessica and to many of her friends over the years as a promise: if you were ever in trouble, call. He would come to pick you up. There would be time to figure everything else out later. First, he wanted you safe. No questions asked.

To Jessica, Robert was more than her father. He was her best friend, her protector, occasionally the biggest pain in her butt, and the man who never stopped reminding her that she was his little princess. Of all the things he loved in this world, there was never any question about how deeply he loved his daughter.

In late July, Robert was diagnosed with Stage III lung cancer. During his first chemotherapy treatment, he suffered a severe allergic reaction that left him critically ill and in a coma. Despite the fight he and those caring for him gave, his body was unable to recover. On August 11, his family made the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully.

Robert’s life cannot be summed up by how it ended. He will be remembered in gardens and freshly baked treats, in things that somehow get fixed when everyone else has given up on them, in Eagles games, in random facts nobody asked for, and in every person who knew that if they truly needed him, Robert Bryer would show up.

Relatives & friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday September 12 at 12 noon. A celebration of life will be at 2pm. Interment will be private.
