DeBellisSalvatore A. DeBellis “Side-Lip Sal” on, Sept 27, 2017. A life-long resident of Southwest Philadelphia and unofficially “The mayor of UNICO Village” where he resided for 25 years and was loved by all. Devoted husband of the late Mary Helen (Gamble) who predeceased him in 1998. Survivors: Loving father of Celeste DeBellis, Dana (James) Malin, Mary Theresa “TC” (Michael) Gibson. Also survived by his grandchildren Kristen DeBellis, angel Baby Michael, Specialist Evan DeBellis (US Army), Luke DeBellis, Jacob Malin, Seth Malin, Mary Kate Malin, Marissa Malin, McKenna Gibson & Lance Corporal Patrick Gibson, USMC. His great grandchildren Alana A. Squillacioti, Salvatore A. Squillacioti and Caden L Lane and his expected great great grandchild. Son of the late Leon & Theresa DeBellis, brother of the late Frances, Dolores (Mariello). Sal graduated from John Bartram High School in 1948 and joined the Army. He was honorably discharged due to a perforated eardrum in 1949. Sal worked at Villanova University for many years as the head of the maintenance department and retired in the 90’s. He loved spending time with friends at the Italian Club on 61st & Grays Avenue and had many friends in the Our Lady of Loreto neighborhood. Once the casinos opened you could always find him there trying to beat the odds. Enjoying good health most of his lifetime, he passed after a brief illness at Vitas Hospice in South Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 of which he was a longtime supporter. Visitation: Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Thurs. 9-10:15 am at St. Barnabas Church 63rd & Buist Ave. Phila. Funeral Mass: 10:30 AMInterment: Private
