Sister Anne DeConcini RSMSister Anne DeConcini, (formerly Sister Marie Bernardone), age 75, died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA on March 21. Born to Edwin and Anne DeConcini at Misericordia Hospital on March 16, 1942, Sister Anne was educated at St. Barnabas School and graduated with highest honors in 1960 from West Catholic Girls High School. As a Sister of Mercy, she completed her degrees in mathematics at Gwynedd Mercy College and theology from Regina Mundi, Rome, Italy and Manhattanville College, NY. Sister Anne, however, could easily be described as a lifelong learner. Sister Anne taught at all levels, elementary, secondary, college and parish but her real passion was as an advocate for the poor and disenfranchised. This took her to parish ministries in the inner city of Philadelphia and suburbs. In the past 7 years, she especially enjoyed her ministries as coordinator of the McAuley Prayer Guild and her connection with West Philadelphia Reflection Ministry which she began in 2010. Many will remember in recent years Sister Anne’s inspiring and insightful scriptural reflections each Thursday at McAuley Convent. Sister is survived by her Sisters of Mercy community, by her sisters Barbara and Mary, her brother-in- law and nephews.Sister Anne’s viewing will take place Monday, March 27, from 6:00-7:00 pm followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 7:00 pm at the Convent of Mercy Chapel, Merion Station. Burial will be private.Contributions in Sister’s memory may be sent to the Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic Community at 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion Station, PA 19066.
