Sister Joan Hasson RSM, age 89, a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died at the Convent of Mercy in Merion Pennsylvania on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
Sister Joan spent her beginning years of ministry in elementary education. After earning a master’s degree, Sister Joan taught business at several high schools in the archdiocese of Philadelphia. Her business skills were utilized and appreciated as an instructor at Gwynedd Mercy University (then College) for almost 20 years. She shared her expertise for a time at Mercy Vocational High School (now Mercy Career and Technical as well as in Internal Services at the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Merion.
Joan loved to travel and when opportunities arose her suitcase was always packed and ready to go. She was a kind person who loved her community and cared deeply for her family and friends.
