Obituary for Sister Kathleen Gennett, RSM
Sister Kathleen Gennett, RSM, age 83, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died peacefully on December 24, 2024, at Lankenau Hospital in Lower Merion, PA.
The dark days of December turned to a glorious light twice in Kathleen’s life. Kathleen was born on December 29, 1940, bringing light and joy to her parents, Charles and Edith Gennett. On December 24, 2024, Kathleen entered the glory of eternal life and light with God.
Kathleen entered the Sisters of Mercy in September 1959. She was received into the community in March 1960, choosing “Jesus, as Thou art” as her lifelong motto and Pentecost Sunday as her feast day. Kathleen’s educational pursuits included degrees from Villanova University, Gwynedd-Mercy College, and Marywood College, preparing her for ministry in teaching. Her longest tenure was at Maternity BVM Parish and School, where she ministered for almost three decades. Kathleen offered her organizational and secretarial skills for another four years as an Archdiocesan support staff member in the Delaware County Vicariate.
In her final years of active ministry, Kathleen provided the valuable service of medical transporter for our sisters residing at the Convent of Mercy and McAuley Convent. Her sensitivity, compassionate care, and driving expertise comforted our sisters.
The Suscipe of Catherine McAuley, Kathleen’s favorite prayer, is now fully realized in her life: “My God, I am thine for time and eternity.” Kathleen, may you rest in the peace and light of Jesus forever.
