Sister Margaret Maura Kirby RSM

God blessed our world with the wonderfully unique gift of our sister, Margaret Mary (Peggy) Kirby, on September 10, 1948.  Nineteen years later, on this same date, September 10, 1967, Peggy entered the Sisters of Mercy, bringing God’s blessings of faith, love, and joyful service to our world for the next 57 years of her life. Peggy was given the religious name Sister Margaret Maura and chose “To Walk with Christ in Peace” as her lifelong motto. Throughout her ministerial journey, Peggy walked along with Jesus at her side, being the incarnation of his peace and light to all.  Peggy was an educator and administrator for over twenty years. During her ministry at St. Katherine Day School, the children and families became the special recipients of her tender care and heart of mercy. Serving in the Office of Youth and Young Adults, Peggy walked with people with disabilities, transforming their lives with opportunities for inclusion and happiness. Her final years of ministry at Mercy Career and Technical High School as a Learning Strategies Specialist culminated in her love of youth and compassionate commitment to others’ needs until God called her home.

Peggy made mercy real!  She enfleshed the good news of Jesus: “Whatever you did for one of these little ones, you did for Me.” Walking with Christ in the darkness of her illness did not dispel the peace and light Peggy brought to our world.  May Peggy walk with Jesus in peace, light, and abundant joy forever in the land of great glory!

A viewing will be held on Thursday December 19th at 9am. The funeral liturgy will follow at 10am in the Convent of Mercy Chapel at 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion, Pa. 19066. Burial will follow in the Community cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister’s name would be appreciated. Please send donations to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas at the above address.
