Mary Jane Stapleton, RSM Sister Mary Jane Stapleton, (Sr. Mary Immaculate), age 88, died April 7 at McAuley Convent in Merion Station, PA. She professed her vows as a Sister of Mercy in 1950.Sister Mary Jane was raised in Philadelphia and later Bala Cynwyd, with her three brothers and two sisters. She is preceded in death by her brothers Edward and Michael, and by her sister, Ruth Helen Filmeyer. Sister Mary Jane is survived by her brother John and sister, Helen Mulcahey, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Mary Jane was an elementary and secondary educator in the archdioceses of Philadelphia, Miami, FL and Atlanta, GA. In 1971 Sister Mary Jane began her long and beloved ministries in Georgia. When a need arose she was ready to answer the call. Her ministries there included teacher, principal, pastoral associate, elementary and family diocesan consultant and Director of Religious Education. She was a pioneer woman who travelled throughout the diocese of Atlanta introducing and teaching the religious education program to catechists. The highlight of her life was her over 30 years of ministry with the children and people throughout Georgia. A gifted and innovative woman, Sister Mary Jane inspired the many people she served as well as community members with whom she lived. She will be remembered as an enthusiastic and fun loving person who enjoyed a good time. Her Sisters, family and friends looked forward to her Jubilee Celebration of 70 years as a Sister of Mercy this spring.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at 6 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 7 PM at the Convent of Mercy in Merion, PA on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. Burial will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, April 12 in the Community Cemetery.Contributions in her memory may be sent to the Sisters of Mercy Mid-Atlantic community at Merion, PA
