Kathleen is survived by her sister Margaret Sonnie, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and nieces. Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation Friday, January 18, 6:00 – 7:00 pm followed by a Funeral Mass at 7:00 pm in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion Station, PA 19066. Burial in the community cemetery will be Saturday, January 19, 10 am. Contributions in Sister’s memory may be sent to the Sisters of Mercy Mid-Atlantic Community at the above address. Obituary for Sister Kathleen Schneider, RSMSister Kathleen Schneider, age 93, a member of the Mid-Atlantic Community of the Sisters of Mercy, died peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at McAuley Convent in Merion, PA.In her early years Sister Kathleen taught in the elementary and secondary schools in the archdiocese of Philadelphia, PA and in the diocese of Richmond, VA. She received a BA from Villanova University and an MA in French from Laval University, Quebec.Her desire to be one with God led her to begin the Bethany House of Prayer at Merion, PA, a place of prayer and rest for Sisters and others. During this time Kathleen’s desire to reach out to people who are poor led her to a variety of ministries in Philadelphia.Always trusting in the movement of God within her, Kathleen became Parish Social Minister reaching out to the residents of boarding houses in Our Lady of the Holy Souls Parish. Later she became Director of Mercy Hospice for homeless women and then Parish Minister for those with Aids in St. Luke and Epiphany Parish.In January 2013 Kathleen moved to McAuley Convent where she enriched the lives of the Sisters, her many visitors and the entire staff with her loving presence and care for each one. Kathleen had a way of making everyone feel very special.Kathleen is pre-deceased by her parents Joseph and Mary Schneider and her brother, Joseph. She is survived by her sister Margaret Sonnie and her many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.
