Vincenza (Enza/Nancy) Russo (nee Zimbello) of Broomall, formerly of Overbrook, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the age of 82.
Vincenza was born and raised in Francofonte, Sicily. For the past fifty years she made her life in the Philadelphia area. Vincenza enjoyed celebrating her faith, cooking comfort foods, shopping, going to parties, spending time with family and her many friends, but most of all she loved being Nonna.
She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Loretta; her parents, Giuseppe and Giovanna Zimbello; her brothers, Franco (Pina), Sebastiano, and Salvatore Zimbello, and her sister, Rosa LaMicela (Giuseppe).
Vincenza is survived by her husband of 47 years, Fred; daughter, Gloria Szurek (Stephen); beloved grandchildren, Alessia and Luca; sister, Maria LaRocca (Salvatore), and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends here and in Italy.
More about Vincenza:
Upon a visit to Philadelphia with family who had immigrated, Vincenza was introduced to Fred. Soon after that they were married, and she remained as a resident of the U.S. Vincenza fiercely loved her family. She was a devoted wife to Fred, loving mother to Gloria, and absolutely adoring Nonna to her grandchildren. They were truly her pride and joy.
Vincenza was a very social lady. She loved a good party and enjoyed visits with her friends and family, of which there were many. If she could not see them in person, then lengthy chats over the phone would have to suffice. She often returned to Italy with Fred and Gloria and made many memories with family and friends there on each visit over the years.
She often expressed her love through her cooking, and one helping was never enough. She was particularly known for her arancini and torrone specialties.
Vincenza will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends, including all her nieces, nephews, commare, compari, and paesani.
Family and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, November 11th, at 9:00 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008. The visitation will be at the church. Inurnment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
