Virginia E. “Ginny” Scaramuzzino

Virginia Elizabeth “Ginny” Scaramuzzino (nèe Mento) passed away unexpectedly in her home on Monday, November 17^th, 2025. She was 67 years old. Ginny was born on August 22^nd, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Paul Mento and Elizabeth “Betty” (nèe Cain) Mento. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Salvatore Scaramuzzino Sr, father Paul, mother Betty, her brother Francis “Frank” Mento, her father-in-law Bruno Scaramuzzino, and mother-in-law Dolores Scaramuzzino (nèe Ciminera).

Ginny grew up at 28^th & Snyder in South Philadelphia, where she would have lively disputes with her first cousins who lived in the area, and after graduating from St. Maria Goretti High School, she began her career in office administration, recently having achieved 20 years of service at GlaxoSmithKline. At a fateful Halloween party held by friends in the early 1980s, she was awestruck by the hair-covered chest of Salvatore Sr. In 1983, the two were married and, a few years later, welcomed a son, Salvatore Jr., affectionately known as “Salvy.” Raising Salvy was the greatest joy of Ginny’s life. Later, the family moved to Springfield, Delaware County, where they spent nearly 30 happy years watching Salvy grow up, carting him and his friends to karate, football practice, concerts, and the mall, hosting holiday dinners for copious amounts of friends and relatives, as well as enjoying and supporting each other.

In addition to Salvy, though not nearly as much, Ginny loved to cook, eat, and be with family watching QVC, any show starring Tom Selleck, Motown, and Marlboro Lights were guilty pleasures of Ginny’s. Her love of dragonflies and cardinals was just as well-known as her abhorrence of snakes. She spent countless days at the family shore house in Ventnor Heights, New Jersey and would be spotted on summer mornings with her cup of coffee on the front porch, saying hello to neighbors and passersby.

Above all things, Ginny deeply believed in people being treated justly and the way you would want to be treated. She wanted everyone to be fed, clothed, and have a home. Ginny was an absolute beacon of warmth and light regardless of the circumstance. She shared her light unabashedly with co-workers at places of business across the area, with many becoming life-long friends.

Ginny is survived by her son Salvy and daughter-in-law Sandra “Sandi” Tarsitano, sister-in-law Liz Hammonds (nèe Scaramuzzino), brother-in-law Robert Hammonds, and many loving cousins.

Relatives & Friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday Nov. 25th 9:30-10:45am at St Kevin Church 200 W. Sproul Road in Springfield. Ginny’s funeral mass will be held at 11am. Interment will be at SS Peter & Paul cemetery.
