January 8, 1937 – January 7, 2017Newtown Square, Pennsylvania / Age 79Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and SisterBarbara Merola (nee DelCasale), age 79, of Newtown Square (formerly of Broomall) passed away on January 7, 2017 at Bryn Mawr Hospital surrounded by her family.Barbara was born in South Philadelphia on January 8, 1937. She was a 1954 graduate of West Catholic Girls High School. Upon her graduation from high school she went to work for Bell Telephone Company. In 1967 Barbara married James Merola and together they raised a family. Jim and Barbara were married for 48 years until his death in July 2015.She was a devoted stay at home mom to her two daughters and an extremely proud Grammy of six grandchildren. Barbara was the best of friends with her sister, Irene. One of her favorite past times was her Monday night bridge game with Irene and the bridge ladies. She also loved to travel, planning numerous family vacations all over the country. Barbara especially loved visiting the Phillies Spring Training Camp in Clearwater, Florida with Jim. For over 20 years she was an active member of the St. Anastasia Parish’s Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed attending meetings, socializing and traveling with her Seniors’ Club friends.Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Jim and her parents, Susan and Michael DelCasale.She is survived by her daughters Suzanne Mounce (Joseph) and Jennifer Merola (Emily). She was loving Grammy to Angela, Lauren, Marissa, Nathan, Cameron and Tessa. She is also survived by her sister, Irene DiPaul (John) and many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, January 13th, 10:00 am at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073 followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.Interment Sts Peter and Paul CementaryMemorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to St. Anastasia Church.
