As far as I know, Chris’s life was prosperous, satisfying, and full, and he would regret of it only that it was not longer. I am grieved most for Caitlyn and Mimi. I don’t know how one endures the loss of the one they need and love most in the world. I hope I never know. It seems usual, almost inevitable, that the lives that are the fullest: the most competent, the most valued, the most enjoyed by all, are the ones that are cut short and end in their prime. I didn’t know Chris well, but well enough to understand that he liked life, and would, I think, have wanted a long one. He always seemed to look forward to the future, to have stuff he wanted to do and places he wanted to see. That he’s gone, now, is the last thing he, or anyone who knew him, wanted. I’m sharing a drink with him, now, and wishing him well, even though I can’t believe that matters. But maybe I’m wrong; I’m wrong about so much. So, if you’re looking in on the proceedings, Chris, it’s your favored Glen Morangie Single Malt and I hope it hits the spot eternally. May you rest in peace and quite forget your pain, and enjoy death every bit as much as it can be enjoyed. We all shall be along before you know it.
