Lucia Antoinette DiNenno Miele, 97, Cherished Matriarch, Passes Away
Lucia Antoinette DiNenno Miele, a beloved wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025 at the age of 97 .
Born in Philadelphia on August 12, 1927, Lu was the daughter of the late Philip and Elena DiNenno and the sister of the late Alphonse and Philip DiNenno. At the age of 12 at a St. Donato’s church carnival, she met the love of her life, Joseph Miele, and thus began a love story that would span more than seven decades. They married in 1951 and built a life centered around family, faith, and service.
Lu and Joe were inseparable. For 73 years, their love was a testament to devotion, resilience, and unwavering partnership. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional support. They faced life’s joys and challenges hand in hand, setting an example of commitment that inspired all who knew them. Their bond was strengthened by shared values, simple pleasures—Sunday dinners, family gatherings, and quiet moments of companionship—and an unspoken understanding that they were always each other’s greatest blessing. Through every milestone and every ordinary day, Lu and Joe embodied the true meaning of a lifelong love story, one that will continue to live on in the hearts of their family.
Lu was the quiet, steady force that kept their large family together, balancing the energy of seven children with grace and patience. She had a way of making each child feel as though they were her favorite, even while managing the daily chaos of a bustling household. She was her children’s first and best teacher, instilling values of kindness, humility, and perseverance. She never sought attention or praise but instead dedicated her life to the happiness of those around her.
Beyond her family, Lu found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She never missed a Phillies game, loved a good crossword puzzle, enjoyed sitting in the sun on Long Beach Island, and was unbeatable at Wheel of Fortune. She was a voracious reader, a faithful volunteer for the Sisters of Visitation and the Guadalupe Guild, and a woman of deep faith. Lu and Joe were longtime parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Philadelphia.
Lu’s greatest source of pride and joy was her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Elena DiNenno; her brothers, Alphonse and Philip; her son-in-law, Robert Boyd; and her grandson, Gordon Miele. She is survived by her husband Joseph; their children William (Colleen), Philip (Deborah), Maria Boyd (Robert), Linda Benton (Charles), Joseph Jr. (Laura), Michael (Joyce), and Martha. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to Lucia’s visitation at D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall on Wednesday, March 12th from 4-6pm, and on Thursday March 13th ALL IN CHURCH at St. Colman’s Church 11 Simpson Rd, Ardmore, PA 19003 from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. followed by her funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
