Shirley H. Marcello (nee Ucci), age 90, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family in Broomall, PA. She was formerly of South Philadelphia.
Shirley dedicated 40 years of service as a federal employee, working as a Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to her federal career, she was a beloved and iconic hostess at the West Gate Pub for 33 years. A favorite among employees and regular patrons, she became part of the heart of the West Gate family. In her honor, a popular menu item, “Shirley’s Meatballs,” was named after her. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by the many staff members and loyal customers who gathered at the West Gate every weekend.
She was the youngest of eight siblings: Nick, Albert, Rick, Mary, Mario, Gino, and Rose.
Shirley had a lifelong love of fashion and jewelry, especially the color red and her signature cheetah and leopard prints, which perfectly reflected her vibrant personality.
Above all, Shirley loved and cared deeply for her family and her many friends. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and caring spirit, touching the lives of all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter L. Marcello; her parents, Philomena (nee Angelucci) and Gaetano Ucci; and her siblings.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Monique M. Perdue, who was her devoted caregiver for the past 16 years, loving Son in Law Scott, and her cherished granddaughters, Alyssa and Carly.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, December 29th, from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM, all in church, at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008. Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
