Bernard “Bernie” Kueny, 87, was born in South Phila PA to Bernard and Catherine Kueny. He was a resident of Southwest Phila and Folsom, PA, he passed away peacefully on May 1st surrounded by the love of his family.
Bernie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane Kueny, and his son, Bernard Kueny Jr.
He was a devoted father to Bonnie Tiernan, Jayne Butler, Cathy Kueny, and Renee’ Pellegrino. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Bernard Kueny IV, Louis Tiernan, Nicholas Pellegrino, Jenna Mangano, Paige Pellegrino, and Matthew Pellegrino. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Christopher Butler and Carl Forcillo, as well as his sister Catherine Tomastik and nieces and nephews.
His family was the center of his life, and he took great pride in each and every one of them.
A proud veteran, Bernie honorably served in the United States Marine Corps as a young adult. Following his military service, he continued his lifelong commitment to protecting others as a Philadelphia Police Officer. His dedication, courage, and sense of duty left a lasting impact on the community he so proudly served.
Bernie was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan, rarely missing a game and always cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles. He was also deeply involved in the city’s rich traditions as a proud member of the Woodland String Band, where he earned the honor of being inducted into the Hall of Fame, a testament to his spirit, talent, and love for Philadelphia’s Mummers culture.
Above all, Bernie will be remembered as a man of service, strength, and quiet generosity. He dedicated his life to serving and protecting others, his country, his city, and most importantly, his family. He was a true hero to those who knew him and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Relatives & Friends are invited to his gathering on Friday May 8th 9 – 10:15 am at the Danjolell – Stigale Memorial Home 3260 Concord Rd. Aston.
Bernie’s funeral service will be at 10:30am in our main chapel.
Interment will be private.
