CARMELA ZAPPARDINO

Carmela Marie (nee Penna), age 87, passed away on September 2, 2026, of Broomall, PA, formerly of Upper Darby.

A proud woman of Italian descent, Carmela grew up on Keystone Avenue and was a graduate of Upper Darby High School, Class of 1957. It was during her youth that she met the love of her life, Geno, at a school dance. The two soon married, starting a beautiful journey together that spanned decades and blessed them with two cherished daughters. Carmela balanced a life of hard work and family devotion, working dedicatedly in the banking industry for the better part of her life while partnering with her husband to raise their children. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, always filled with the comforting aromas of traditional recipes, deep love, and the sound of laughter. She possessed a rare ability to make anyone who walked through her door feel instantly welcome, and her greatest joy was always found in the simple moments spent surrounded by those she loved. Her legacy of hard work, unconditional love, and gentle spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Geno Zappardino, her brother Carl Penna, her sister Giovanina Evans, and her parents, Giovanina (nee Angiolillo) and Carl Penna. Survived by her cherished children, Maria Rigney (Christopher) and Gena Zappardino; her adoring grandchildren, Christina and Anthony Viola (Shannon), her great-grandchild Jordan, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Relatives & friends are invited to her Viewing, Tuesday, September 8th, 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM at the D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008 followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at Saint Anastasia Roman Catholic Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Interment Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
