Carolyn Urie Murray, of Malvern, formerly of Drexel Hill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Jacksonville, FL.
Carolyn, the daughter of Cecelia (“Ceal”) Wright and Charles H. Urie was raised in Drexel Hill. She attended St. Bernadette’s and was a graduate of Prendergast High School and Gwynedd Mercy College. She was a gifted and dedicated teacher who taught for several years at Waldren Mercy Academy, Chesterbook Academy and St. Agnes in West Chester.
She was a devoted wife to her husband, Marty, for 44 years until his death in 2017; a loving mother to Kara, Eireann (Brad) and Daniel (Katya); sister to Connie (Gary), Chuck (Linda), Chris (Michaela), Claudia (Steve), Mike (Rick), Cindy (George), Celeste (Wendell), Regina (Walter), Msgr. Daniel Murray, Sr. Maureen Murray RSM and Rev. Kevin Murray; grandmother to Michael, Edward, Caitlin and Kaia; and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Carolyn had a sharp mind unlike anyone with a love for books, chess…and shepherds (specifically King and Luka). She had a selfless devotion to her family with a natural way of caring for her siblings, parents, children and grandchildren. She was the ultimate host never failing to offer a sandwich to anyone who walked in the door. In her later years her primary joy was spending time with her grandsons, cheering on Michael at soccer and reading to Edward. She will be remembered for her wit, stubborn nature, smile and her heart of gold.
Relatives and friends are invited to her wake Friday April 12th 10:30 am at St. Patrick’s Church 104 Channing Ave., Malvern, PA followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:30 am. Interment at S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery to follow.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Carolyn’s memory may be made to McAuley Convent in Merion or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
