I just found out that Charles passed in February. My condolences to his family. Charles cut my hair since I was 17 years old in 1974 until he retired a few years ago. Even living far away over the years I would still see him at least once if not more times so he could “fix” what others could not. He was a real artist! He always had great stories to tell and his jokes were priceless. He will be missed by all of his customers and friends and especially his family. May he rest in peace.

To Josephine, Robert, Diane and Christian, I offer my condolences. Although I grew up in Yeadon and Charles was my barber since I was 9 (1976), I then moved to South Jersey in 1995...and still, without hesitation, took the drive out up until the time of the shop closing. As we all know, Charles was more than just a barber. He was a friend to all his customers, his smile was infectious, made us laugh with his corny jokes (the ones that he would laugh even harder telling!), and was a shoulder to lean in if you ever needed anything. He embraced the community and in my mind, was "Mr. Yeadon"! He was so proud of his family...always telling me stories and filling me in on what was going on, but I know, he was especially proud of Christian. I will also miss our conversations--him telling me about how he and Josephine just had a blast at the casino, or an afternoon out with his buddies, or even about his golf game. I am forever grateful having known him and Charles was special to all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace my friend! --Ed Weckerly

Very sad to hear of Charley passing. This man meant a lot to me growing up. Gave me advice which I still follow to this day. I would sit there for hours after my haircut to just talk. Took me golfing with his friends when I was like 18 and barely knew what a golf club was. But he took me and showed me how to play. The man was more than a barber to me. He was and always will be a legend. Not many people get to say that. But that is what he is.

Long after he retired I would see him in the local grocery stores and we’d chat about the golden days of Yeadon during the 1960s and 1970s. Charles and Carlo were what made Yeadon a remarkable place to grow up in. My deepest condolences to the Pavia family.

My 1st haircut from Charlie was 1956. I was 16 , he was 18. We kept it together for 65 years. He was a master craftsman. He had more stories than Mark Twain. I always heard about favorite food and martinis. He worshiped his family and my condolences to them. He will be greatly missed and will be in my memories always. Rest in peace my old buddie.

I started going to Ralph’s barbershop on Whitby Avenue when I was about 9 years old, and remember Charlie from that time. After Ralph retired (and sadly passed away shortly thereafter), I continued to get my haircuts there, either by Charlie or Carlo. It was always a cheerful, welcoming place, because Charlie and Carlo were such kind and genuine guys. Though it’s been many years since I moved away from Yeadon, I still think of those days with a smile … very sweet memories. Sincere condolences to Charlie’s family.

Mr. Pavia was a legend. Well respected and loved within the community. His loves outside his family were his business and Yeadon. Both benefited from his decades of service. He will be missed but never forgotten. It was both a pleasure and an honor to have known him. My condolences and prayers to the family.

My sincerest condolences to the Peco’s family. I remember Charlie the day he started working for Ralph Capone on Chester Avenue. I was around 12 years old and still came to Charlie in my 60’s. My friends and I came to visit during his Christmas “parties”. He always had a story and a smile. He was Yeadon thru and thru. When I got older the first question when I got in his chair was”do I want to get my hair dyed?” I said only if it stayed as dark as his. He loved to talk about cars and and sports. I will miss knowing that Charlie isn’t there with scissors in one hand and a smile on his face

Charles & Carlo was one of our regular household names and numbers. Charles was a class act all the way around and I enjoyed when he would cut my hair and tell me about all of his stories. He will definitely be someone that I will never forget. May he rest in peace. I am so sorry for your loss.
