David has always been well known for his kind and amicable personality as he had a unique adaptability and kinship that was infectious to all he has encountered. His relationship with his late mother, Patty, was incredibly close, more than just a mother and son bond, indeed they were best friends.
Growing up in Norwood, PA, he attended Interboro H.S., and even though he received the 6th grade math award, college was not a goal in his early years, although he always found a way to use his passion for mathematics in his adult years, both at work as well as with his obsession over sports statistics. During his H.S. years, the Tartaglia family took him under their wings, teaching him all about the concrete business that he would continue to pursue as a career for the next 30 years of his life. Over those years, David engulfed himself in mastering the trade, known to many as the “best finisher” while always taking tremendous pride during completion of each job and task at hand, most recently working with the Cement Masons and Plasterers Union.
In addition to his passion for his work, David had an extreme hobby for fashion (specifically his sneaker game), owning 50+ pairs of shoes most recently. Another joy of his over the years include his love and devotion to fitness, once again, starting during his friendship with the Tartaglia family, where he began his journey exercising in their family garage. While Dave may appear to be seen to many as a “manly man”, deep down, he was unbelievably compassionate, empathetic and kind to all of his family, friends, peers and co-workers alike. Despite his “Rock Hard” tattoo and outward appearance, he would truly give the shirt off his back to anyone. When you were around Dave, you were most certainly greeted with the warmest hugs, whether you were ready for it or not. He was welcoming to all, no matter the situation or circumstance, and made everyone feel like friends or family.
As much as David loved his work, sneakers and fitness, he often said he never expected to love anything or anyone as much as he loved his mother, which was up until he met his fiancé, Elizabeth. David clearly never held back and would go out of his way boasting to the world, his love and admiration for Liz. Their newly found love was Fast & Furious, overwhelming and calming at the same time and incredible to watch as their love and respect for each other’s personal journey continued to grow more each day together. More love came along with his relationship with Liz, as he became a proud “dog dad” to Blitz and Dasher. He and Dasher always had an impeccable bond, they would often be found snuggling or napping together, almost daily. The two would share peanut butter snacks or whatever Liz cooked for dinner.
His last few years were devoted to Narcotics Anonymous, his recovery and his fiancé Liz. David made recovery within the NA fellowship a top priority, taking precedence to always be present in service for the newcomers while being committed to becoming the absolute best version of himself. He provided incredible hope for those struggling with the disease of addiction as a beacon of strength for many in the fellowship. In his last days, Dave was grateful for the life he achieved through the program, especially with Liz by his side on his lifelong journey. In the end, the light that David amplified to many, will be truly missed by those whom he’s had the ability to embrace positive change and hope for.
