PACITTIDonald A. Pacitti, 91, our “Dear Old Dad,” was called home on December 13, 2019, at St. Martha’s Manor in Downingtown, PA. Don is survived by his devoted wife Eleanor of 67 years, beloved sons Donald (Maria), Gary, David (Kelly), loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.Don was a loving father, devoted husband, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and loyal friend to many. Born to Antonio and Amelia Pacitti on September 23, 1928, he cherished what he described as an idyllic childhood, spending summers on the family farm in Chairville, NJ, walking the dirt roads, picking blueberries, swimming in the magical healing waters of the local cedar water pond, and of course, making much fun and spinning family lore around battling the mythical “Jersey Devil.” Later, Don attended Villanova University where he studied business, ran track, and played on the 150lb football team. Following graduation, Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a medical field tech, rising to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. On October 18, 1952, Don married the love of his life, Eleanor DiTeodoro. They settled in Upper Darby where they raised their 3 sons and Don started his long career with Hallmark Cards, where he formed many lifelong friendships. Time went on as Don crafted a wonderful life, punctuated with golden memories of rich family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas and lazy summers at his dream home on the Brigantine Bay. He introduced us all to boating, water skiing, fishing, and crabbing, and imbued in us a deep appreciation of life at the Jersey shore. Through it all Don remained an avid and yet typical Philadelphia sports fan…..you know the type….everyone was a bum! Dad had a gift of relating to people in an endearing way which immediately put them at ease and made them feel special. He was warm, relentlessly cheerful, and at times outright hilarious. This playful spirit led him to create quite a few memorable characters over the years: Super Don Playin’ Volleyball, Saint Don, the leader of the Chairville Outlaws, and most recently at the nursing home…Don Juan. He always wanted to brighten every day and leave every situation better than he found it. We will remember him best for the mark that he left on us and the values he instilled in us. He taught us to value and not be afraid of sacrifice for he knew that it was often an agent of love. He taught us not to complain but rather make the best of each circumstance for he knew that he had the power to create happiness and be grateful, even in the worst of times. He was tender and yet strong, worked hard but knew how to have fun, was always kind but never coddling, righteous but always forgiving. He had a quiet faith that he rarely discussed but that we knew was deeply important to him. Thank you for every moment. You were such a great dad. We will love you forever. Relatives and Friends are invited to his Viewing on Friday, Dec. 20th, ALL IN CHURCH, 9:00 AM – 10:15 AM, with Funeral Mass to follow 10:30 AM, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N.
