Donald J. Reape, of Haverford, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
He was born July 8, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA to Martin and Helen Reape (nee Hoffman), the youngest of their three children. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1955 to 1957 on the U.S.S. Valley Forge, and a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.
He leaves behind his son, David; daughter-in-law Kathy; grandsons, Noah and Ian; granddaughter, Alexis; granddaughter-in-law Laoise, as well as three stepchildren and step-grandchildren that he shared with his wife Susan. He is preceded in death by his brother Martin, sister Ruth Fletcher, his former wife Laura, his son Donald Jr., and his wife Susan Stewart.
He graduated from Roman Catholic High School, where he played football, and LaSalle University. A self-described “fitness buff”, Don was athletic and active his entire life, and loved going to the gym. He had three different gym memberships and worked out every day. He was an inspiration to all of the younger people at the gym and was easily recognizable by his power-walking on the treadmill. He loved coming to Sunday dinners with David and his family and the first thing he always asked everyone was if they had worked out that day.
He also loved spending summers at the Jersey shore and was a lifeguard in Wildwood during his college days. Early on, he spent time in Sea Isle, Avalon, and Ocean City, but for the last two decades he enjoyed being with Susan and her family in Somers Point, or with David and his family in Brigantine. He loved going out fishing with Susan and David on her boat, even if they didn’t catch anything.
Don had a long and illustrious career as a real estate developer, MAI appraiser, and mortgage banker. After starting his career working for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, he founded the appraisal firm of Reape, Jeffers and Associates. He also previously served on the Board of Directors of a commercial bank and was currently serving as the President of a large non-profit 501c3.
