LUONGO Dorothy C., Lt. Col. Ret., age 92 of Devon, PA, died peacefully at home on August 20, 2013. Beloved Auntie of Dr. Guy Nardella (Dorothy), Dennis Nardella (Donna), Lauren Edgar (Dennis), Donna Savastio (Edward), Rosemarie (Dr. Daniel Daley), Stanley Luongo, Jr. (Danielle), Ronald Luongo (Sharon), and Kathleen Reinersmann (William). Also survived by 7 grandnephews and 7 grandnieces. Devoted sister of the late Gloria Nardella and the late Stanley Luongo, Sr. Born in Philadelphia, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Rocco and Aida (Tirimacco) Luongo. She graduated from the South Philadelphia High School for Girls and began her distinguished military career in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) with honorable service in the South Pacific during WW II. Thereafter, Dorothy graduated from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing and went on to serve as an Army nurse during the Korean and Vietnam wars, continuing in peacetime at various Army hospitals around the world. Before retiring in 1972, Dorothy was the recipient of many awards and commendations including the Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations against hostile forces during the period September 1965 to July 1966 in the Republic of Vietnam. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, PA 19064, on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., followed by a Mass at 11:00 A.M. Interment SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
