DiBONAVENTURA
Filomena, (nee Torrini) of Philadelphia, PA, affectionately known as “Nonna”, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026 at age 97. She was born in a small town outside of Giulianova, Italy, the oldest of nine children, and immigrated to Philadelphia after surviving World War Two.
She was an exceptional wife, mother, and grandmother who valued her family, friends, and many pets above anything else. She was a true Italian “Nonna” who loved to share her incredible talent for cooking and sewing with those she loved. She was known for her “Sunday dinners” where she created many lasting memories with her family while infamously sending them home with both a plate of food and recently rescued cat or dog.
Filomena was professionally trained as a seamstress in Italy and became a member of the Philadelphia Garment Workers Union. She had a successful career as a seamstress and retired from Lankenau Hospital to become a full time “Nonna”. During retirement she found her passion for both animal rescue and watching professional wrestling with her Grandson. She worked tirelessly to care for both her grandchildren and the stray animals of West Philadelphia. Nonna will be remembered for her endless kindness and love for those around her. Both she and her mountainous cookie trays will be missed.
Predeceased by her husband, Ernest DiBonaventura, her parents, Concetta (nee Andrenacci) and Domenico Torrini and several of her siblings.
Survived by her daughters, Grace DiBonaventura Beyer and Tina Marie (Frank)Bonifante, and her three grandchildren, Cindy, Ashley, and Justin Beyer.
Relatives & friends are invited to her Viewing Thursday, June 4th, 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM followed by her Funeral Service 12 NOON in the Main Chapel at the DAnjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008. Interment Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
