Florence Baroody Kassab

March 19, 1934 - July 18, 2026

Florence Baroody Kassab, born March 19, 1934, in Florence, South Carolina, to Lebanese immigrant parents, lived a long and richly textured life marked by devotion to family, learning, and the arts. She was predeceased by her three siblings — Adele Kassab, N.B. Baroody, and Joseph Baroody — and by her beloved husband, Edward Kassab, Esquire, whom she married on October 12, 1956 and who passed away on September 3, 2009.

Florence is survived by her two children, Steve Kassab (Mary) and Cynthia Kassab LaRosa (Michael); six grandchildren — Alexandra Kassab (Greg Boesch), Edward Kassab (Mallory), Ian Kassab, James LaRosa (Maria), William LaRosa (Laura), and Julianne LaRosa Espenhorst (Ben); and six great‑grandchildren — Logan Boesch, Ethan Boesch, Leo Kassab, Max Kassab, Isabelle LaRosa, and Myles LaRosa.

A graduate of Converse College, Florence earned degrees in Psychology and Voice, reflecting the intellectual curiosity and artistic passion that would define her life. She was the steady, joyful backbone of support for her husband, Edward, and together they shared a long, adventurous life filled with family, travel, and deep mutual devotion. She was a devoted mother and grandmother known for her ability to connect emotionally with everyone. Florence listened and empathized. She had a generous spirit that was unmatched.

As the oldest living matriarch of her extended family, Florence was cherished by all who knew her. A gifted musician, she taught piano to many nieces and grandchildren, nurturing a love of music across generations. Her commitment to lifelong learning continued well into her later years, including completing a course of study at the Barnes Museum.

Florence was also trained as a Flower Show Judge and was an expert gardener. Her gardens in Rose Valley were renowned for their beauty and became a summer showplace admired by neighbors, friends, and family alike.

Her life enriched everyone fortunate enough to be part of it.

Interment will be private.

Aunt Florence welcomed me into the Kassab family with such warmth and kindness from the very beginning. As someone who married into the family, I will always be grateful for the way she made me feel that I truly belonged. She was genuinely interested in my life and in the lives of our daughters. Whether we were together at family gatherings, celebrations, or simply sharing time and conversation, Aunt Florence always made you feel seen and valued. She listened with grace, loved generously, and had a remarkable gift for making every interaction feel meaningful. I will always remember her elegance, her gentle spirit, and the genuine love she shared so freely with everyone around her. Her life touched so many people, and I feel blessed to have known her. For a teenage girl growing up in the early 1960's, Aunt Florence was the ultimate mentor in fashion, culture and education that one could possibly have. From piano lessons early on, our attending the elegant Xmas Eve parties with our boyfriends then husbands, to receiving invaluable horticultural lessons in home landscaping, we received her generous guidance in many areas. Since she was born between the greatest generation (who truly were) and my boomer generation, she was our cool, young aunt. Hope we can all measure up to her standards!
