Florence H Christiansen

93 of Malvern, formerly of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024. Born in Langhorne, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe L and Evelyn A Polhemus Horner. She was the loving wife of the late Kjell H Christiansen, MD.

Florence attended The George School and Briarcliff College. After this, she met the love of her life, Kjell, in Ocean City, NJ. Some of Florence’s fondest memories were spending time with her children and grandchildren, sitting on the beach, basking in the sun, sharing stories and laughter.

The light of her life was her five children: Steve, Janet, Lois, Sharon, and Susan. Watching her children grow, flourish, and have children of their own, made her so proud. After raising her five wonderful children, she became an aide at The Tarleton School where she was able to continue her love for children. Several of her grandchildren attended the school during her time there.

Florence loved to travel. She and Kjell enjoyed many trips to Norway, where they would reconnect with Kjell’s extended family. She and Kjell were so happy to take their family on wonderful vacations to many places, some of which were, Jekyll Island, GA , Skytop Lodge, Hilton Head, SC, Squam Lake, NH, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Norway.

The things that brought Florence joy were spending summers on Farmers Lane and Ocean City, NJ, chocolate ice cream, root-beer floats, grilled cheese sandwiches, cardigan sweaters, penny-loafers, holding her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family dinners, and most of all making people happy.

Her greatest joy in life was her family.

She is survived by her children, Stephen B Christiansen (Nina)

Janet L Kenny (Thomas) Lois C Roderick (Skip)

Sharon L Margetich (Bruce) and Susan H Thompson (Walter), twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, sister-in-law Joanna Christiansen, niece, two nephews, and many Norwegian relatives

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service Friday, Jan. 12th; 12 noon at Convent Presbyterian Church 400 Lancaster Ave., Malvern, PA 19355. Family will receive guests following the service.

Dear Christiansen Family, You don't know me, and I don't know you, but i did know Florence when she lived in Langhorne. My mother and Florence's mother both graduated from Flemington High School. My mother, Marje Case, was three years behind Florence's mother in school. My mother and Evelyn remained good friends when they married and moved to Langhorne. My dad was an attorney there. Ocean City was a favorite vacation spot for both families, and I know your family had a summer home there in the Gardens. Florence was the prettiest girl in Langhorne and the Horner family was so well respected. My father was a good friend or Roscoe's and visited him until he died. Florence was a gentle woman with a loving, generous heart. She was a welcoming neighbor when we moved to Hershey's Mill. Her kindness to me will always be treasured. I so loved having "tea" with her and hearing all the wonderful stories about her family adventures.
