Francis Joseph “Fran” Miles, Jr.
March 15, 2025 – Aston, PA
Francis Joseph Miles, Jr., known to all as Fran, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His favorite dog Carson, was by his side, offering comfort as he took his final breaths. Fran was a devoted husband to Linda for 49 years, and they shared a total of 55 wonderful years together, having met as teenagers in Southwest Philly at 57/Grays Ave. In addition to being a loving husband, Fran was a dedicated father and Pop-pop, he stepped in as a father figure to his brothers and sister in-laws following the sudden loss of Linda’s father. He cherished his role as a father to three children and a grandfather to six grandchildren. Fran was also a beloved big brother to his sister, Joanne, always looking out for her with the care and guidance that defined his character.
Fran had a long and fulfilling career in the freight industry, working for Flying Tigers, which was later acquired by Federal Express (FedEx), where he served as a local delivery driver. Outside of work, Fran was an integral part of the Aston Valley Baseball League for over 30 years. His commitment to the league was immeasurable—he served as player agent, president, and treasurer, and coached hundreds of young players, from t-ball to seniors. Fran’s love for the game continued as he coached his grandchildren in his retirement.
Following his retirement in 2009, Fran remained an active community volunteer. He contributed to Pennell Elementary, supporting activities for his grandchildren, and spent many Super Bowl Sundays working at Pretzel Boy. He was also a frequent attendee of Aston Valley meetings alongside his close friend and “sidekick,” Joe Hart.
Fran’s efforts in the community earned him several prestigious awards, including Aston’s Citizen of the Year and induction into the Pennsylvania Babe Ruth Hall of Fame. A particularly proud moment for him was helping build the Jim Buggy Memorial Field at Sun Valley with the assistance of many volunteers. The third base dugout was dedicated to him in 2021 as a testament to his dedication and impact on the community.
Fran loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially watching them swim in the backyard or cheer them on at their sporting events. He looked forward to his yearly family vacations to Wildwood, where he would happily take the tram car on the boards. Fran leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and countless memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
